Kloof 190 Wins Toti Oddball Olympics Again
Published 6 June 2011
Kloof Round Table were stunned out of first place in 2010 after winning the Round Table section easily in 2009. Westville 163 took the trophy and forced Kloof to rethink their strategy for the competition.
The leadership decided to consolidate and instead of attempting to 'blood' new members using 2 teams made the sane call of entering a single team with both the experience and the youth to compete succesfully.
2 of the members were veterans of the class of 2009 and knew what was required to wrench the trophy out of the clutches of Westville 163. Ross 'volunteered' as captain and as such he led the team with gritty determination and courage as right from the start he suffered from a mild ear infection.
The fact that several other members suffered from horrible cramps due to incorrect 'hydration' did not dampen the spirts of the team in any way.
The competition was fierce and no quarters were asked for or given. Many shooters and cans of ale were of course asked for and given, but that made no impact on the playing field. Once the dust (and mud and foam) had settled the trophy was rightfully claimed by Kloof 190 and back on its way to the misty vales of Kloof to reside proudly in the clubhouse for another year.
The day was an enjoyable showcase of fun and fellowship and the light-hearted banter between the Tablers at each event made for some excellent experiences for all involved.
My Year as Chairman of Kloof 190
Published 26 Mar 2011
If I could use one word to summarise my year as chairman it would be ‘Satisfied’. I set some very specific goals for the Table to achieve and we either achieved them or surpassed the.
We managed to triple the raids to other tables and each raid had better attendance than in prior years. Our involvement in other Table and Area functions and events was also increased. Kloof 190 got together far more often than in previous years doing some very different activities and keeping the vibe fun while strengthening the bonds within the Table.
We added a new fundraiser to our calendar and this event was well supported as well as a great experience for us and helped us add some funds to our General Fund. We had the most successful Uncle Jumbo’s Christmas Party to date with better attendance than the previous year and the largest attendance on a single night reaching 647. The guys have had some very interesting fundraising ideas which are keeping the often difficult task of raising money far more exciting and enticing.
Our membership has stayed constant as, even though we have had 1 resignation and will be axing 1 member, we have inducted Matthew Heaton and will be inducting Darren Taljard. At our first meeting of February we added 3 pipe-liners to our membership process and have another 3 guest showing interest.
The only area where we did not exceed last year’s standard was in our spending on Community Services projects. This was not unexpected as Lourens & Bronwen made this their singular goal and since their departure we have struggled to follow up on several projects due to time constraints.
Our fellowship within the table has increased and improved throughout the year and this has resulted in a tremendous spirit being present at all our meetings and events. All our members are proud to be a part of Kloof Round Table and ARTSA and committed to continuing the success of 2010 into 2011 and beyond under the leadership of Ross Andrew and his council.

GEZUBUSO PROJECTS - SUNSHINE HOUSE FOSTER CARE PROGRAMME
Published 30 Jan 2011
On the 12th of December 2010 “Kloof Round Table” graciously supplied a budget to have a Christmas party for the children at the “SUNSHINE HOUSE FOSTER HOME” in Pietermaritzburg.
Family and friends of Kloof 190 as well as some employees of Colenbrander chartered accountants all chipped in to make this day something really special for the kids.
The morning started rigorously wrapping a personalised presents for each child at the sunshine home, ranging from the ages of 4 to 17.
The menu for the day started with hotdogs and chips for lunch and packets of sweets, supplied by our Uncle Jumbos Christmas Party, followed by the most exciting part of all… the presents. We all spent the afternoon playing cricket and other games with the kids and the smiles only dwindled when it was time to go.
All in all it was an afternoon well spent, and was received very well, thank you Kloof 190 for the opportunity to make this happen, and to all the people involved who gave up their time to make it a successful day for us and a memorable one for the children.

Uncle Jumbos 2010
Published 15 Jan 2011
After last year’s chaotic build-up to the show I decided that this year would be better planned and thus, hopefully, have a more enjoyable work party atmosphere. The container arrived on site one day earlier than planned and this lead me to believe that only smooth sailing would be ahead. The phrase ‘the best battle plans never survive first contact with the enemy’ uttered by Ross and Matt on separate occasions never seemed more apt than in 2010 Uncle Jumbo’s. The tent didn’t go up any earlier than any other year and we struggled with a myriad of problems from having no stands to not having coke fridges until the afternoon of the charity night.
Despite these ‘small’ setbacks the sense of humour never faltered and the guys that applied themselves at the work parties and in the week leading up to the show shared jokes at all times, handed out the obligatory beers and were extremely productive. After the first weekend we had achieved more than in previous years, possibly due to the increase in manpower but, I believe, more likely due to the fact that everyone was having a good time.
The show would not have been possible without the commitment of the Kloof tablers and their families as per usual but this year we were greatly assisted by our new guest in the form of Bryan, Gary and Michael. These young men showed all the enthusiasm, dedication and commitment required to be Kloof Round Table members and Uncle Jumbo’s regulars. Thanks must also go to Watercrest 218 where Worrick and Gerhard were on-hand to act where we short of actors. Jeron and Yagenderan were again enlisted to ensure that the Spiderman suit saw action and special mention must be made of Yagenderan’s creative entrances and his first night entrance which took all of 3 minutes as he got stuck on the wall.
Darren Taljard has been considered a Kloof tabler for the last few weeks and he must be commended for his sterling effort as the new Mr. Technical who tirelessly ensured that the electrics and sound were all in top-notch working order. Taking over from Kevin Courtney is no small task and the increase in the specific tasks done by the mysterious technical crew in the planning spreadsheet has indicated the importance of the work done and the vast array of work required to be done by a small group.
We managed to entertain 3047 patrons which was an increase from last year’s number of 2818. The increase in numbers along with a small price increase and a well-run bistro managed efficiently and professionally by Spar meant our overall profit realized over R112000. This was an increase of over R40000 from last year.
